Man Shot Dead Near St. Croix Foundation in Christiansted; USVI Now at 23 Homicides for 2020; VIPD to Hold Press Conference Monday

ST. CROIX — The 23rd homicide for 2020 in the U.S. Virgin Islands occurred on Sunday afternoon in downtown Christiansted in an area called Time Square, where a man was shot dead and remained on the ground for about two hours while V.I.P.D. officers awaited the arrival of next of kin to identify the body. According to V.I.P.D. Public Information Officer Toby Derima, who was on the scene of the shooting until after 7:00 p.m. Sunday, the victim was identified by next of kin as Terrance Leroy James, age 38. Mr. Derima said the 911 Emergency Call Center started receiving calls about the shooting at about 5:30 p.m., which occurred in the vicinity of an outreach center near the St. Croix Foundation. Minutes later, 911 received calls of a man down who appeared to have sustained gunshot wounds. Upon the arrival of emergency medical technicians to the scene, the victim was pronounced dead on arrival. No suspect was in police custody as of Sunday night.
