ST. CROIX — A man who was sitting in his vehicle with his wife in the parking lot of the Breezes Restaurant on Sunday afternoon, was assaulted by a masked man who was attempting a robbery — leaving the victim with lacerations about his face and head, the V.I.P.D. announced Monday.

According to police spokesman Toby Derima, at approximately 2:49 p.m. Sunday, the 911 Emergency Call Center dispatched officers to the restaurant to investigate the robbery.

Officers traveled to the area and contacted a witness who stated that she and her husband were at the restaurant’s parking lot sitting in their vehicle. The male victim exited the vehicle to investigate a noise they heard when a black male individual wearing a mask and a camouflaged shirt demanded money from them. The male victim told the suspect that he did not have money. Even so, the suspect assaulted the victim with a sharp object about the face. The suspect left the area in a dark green Jeep.

The victim was transported to the Juan F. Luis Hospital where he received treatment for multiple lacerations about his face and head, Mr. Derima said. He was listed in stable condition.

The V.I.P.D. is asking anyone with information about this incident to call 911, the Crime TipLine at 340-778-4950, or Crime Stoppers USVI with an anonymous tip here.
