Man Who Police Say Cashed 9 Counterfeit Checks Into His Personal Account Using Dept. of Labor Info Arrested

ST. CROIX — The V.I. Police Department has arrested the third individual who allegedly deposited counterfeit checks using information belonging to the V.I. Dept. of Labor. According to V.I.P.D. Director of Communications Glen Dratte, evidence showed that Obasi Luke, the third suspect, deposited nine checks that totaled $10,873.24 into his personal bank account. Detectives from the Economic Crimes Unit on Wednesday at about 10:11 a.m. executed an arrest warrant in the vicinity of Campo Rico, where Obasi Luke, age 23 was placed under arrest without incident. Luke was charged with uttering or passing forged or counterfeit matters, obtaining money by false pretense, grand larceny, possession of forged bills or notes, forgery, and fraudulent claims upon the government.
