Frederiksted Gunfire Renews Focus on Public Safety, Investment and Years of Neglect

ST. CROIX  — An early-morning barrage of gunfire in Frederiksted has renewed concerns about public safety in the town, after a report of more than 100 shots fired and a V.I. Police Department investigation near the fire station on Queen Street. According to VIPD, the St. Croix 911 Emergency Call Center received multiple ShotSpotter notifications and several phone calls reporting shots being fired in the area of the fire station on Queen Street in Frederiksted on Saturday, May 9, at 4:05 a.m. Police officers were dispatched to the area and found multiple spent casings upon arrival. VIPD said there were no reported injuries and no suspect information was available. The Criminal Investigation Bureau is actively investigating the incident.
