ST. CROIX — A man who went to the police station last year to complete an application for housing assistance was arrested months later after authorities discovered an active arrest warrant from Florida in his name, according to the Virgin Islands Police Department.

Police said Kent Fraser went to the station last October to complete the housing assistance application. Two days later, members of the VIPD Intelligence Unit learned that an outstanding arrest warrant had been issued for him in the state of Florida.

After eight months, police located Mr. Fraser last Thursday in a unit at the Louis E. Brown Apartments in Frederiksted.

Once he identified himself to officers, Mr. Fraser was arrested and taken into custody.

He was charged with being a fugitive from justice and remanded pending his first court appearance.

According to the public court docket, Mr. Fraser appeared Friday before Magistrate Yolan Brow Ross, and a public defender was appointed to represent him.

Another hearing is scheduled for Monday.
