ST. CROIX — Terrell E. Johnson, 31, of St. Croix, has been sentenced to 10 years imprisonment for discharging a firearm during a crime of violence inside Cruzian Bayou Bistro Restaurant in King’s Alley Walk in Christiansted.
United States Attorney Adam F. Sleeper of the District of the Virgin Islands announced Tuesday that Chief U.S. District Court Judge Robert A. Molloy imposed the sentence.
According to court documents, Johnson entered the restaurant on February 10, 2024, and sat at the bar. When he began rolling a marijuana cigarette, he was told that smoking in the restaurant was prohibited.
Johnson became irate and was asked a second time to stop rolling the marijuana cigarette.
When he was told to leave the establishment, Johnson retrieved a Glock .40 caliber firearm from his black fanny pack and threatened to shoot one of the restaurant’s owners, according to federal prosecutors.
Johnson continued making threats and ultimately fired the gun into the air. As he walked away from the establishment, he fired three additional shots.
The case was investigated by the Federal Bureau of Investigation, with assistance from the Virgin Islands Police Department.
It was prosecuted by Criminal Chief Kyle Payne and Assistant United States Attorney Martin Forrest IV of the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the District of the Virgin Islands.
