ST. CROIX — The V.I. Police Department has arrested 48-year-old Brian Schooler in connection with Friday night’s fatal shooting at the WMJR Service Gas Station in the vicinity of Sion Farm, where 50-year-old Pedro Melendez Sanes was found with multiple gunshot wounds and pronounced dead at the scene.
According to information provided by VIPD Director of Communications Glen Dratte, the St. Croix 911 Emergency Call Center received a ShotSpotter notification at approximately 7:07 p.m. on Friday, June 26. Several 911 calls also reported shots fired and a gunshot wound victim at the service station.
When officers arrived at the scene, they observed an adult male with multiple gunshot wounds to his body. Responding medical personnel pronounced him deceased at the scene.
Police said the suspect was identified at the scene as Brian Schooler, 48, a licensed firearm owner. Schooler was transported to the Criminal Investigation Bureau office, where he was placed under arrest and processed.
He faces charges of first-degree murder, first-degree assault, reckless endangerment, and discharging or aiming a firearm.
Unable to post bail in the amount of $1 million, Schooler was remanded to the John A. Bell Adult Correctional Facility pending his advice of rights hearing at the Superior Court on Monday, June 29.
