Local Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority Provides $5,000 in Scholarship Funding to High School Seniors in St. Thomas and St. John

The Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. Sigma Theta Omega Chapter announced late Monday its 2022 Gertrude Lockhart Melchoir Scholarship Awards. “This year we were excited to be able to provide scholarship awards to all six applicants," the sorority said. It described the applicants as all outstanding students "with bright and promising futures." "Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority’s mission of service to all mankind remains true," stated Julice Holder, chapter president. In order to assist as many students as possible, three scholarships were awarded in addition to three book scholarships, according to the release. The recipients are as follows: Tashani Williams, Gifft Hill High School, $1,500. Kaj Gerard, Charlotte Amalie High School, $1,000. Rohan Nagi, VI Montessori School, $1,000. Saidah Sekou, Charlotte Amalie High School, $500. Anju Sujanani, Charlotte Amalie High School, $500.
