Update (Tues. Aug. 16, 2022 at 4:38 a.m.): The 17-year-old female minor who had left her mother's house for seven days came into the Wilbur Francis Command Police Station in Frederiksted at 9:07 p.m. Monday, according to the V.I. Police Department. The minor, Merika Scafe, reportedly told police that after seeing herself on the Consortium, she wanted to bring an end to the situation. Scafe appeared to be safe and was in the custody of her mother as of Monday night.
Original Story: ST. CROIX —The V.I. Police Department is seeking the community's assistance to locate a 17-year-old female minor who went missing seven days ago on St. Croix. The report was made by the victim's mother on Sunday, August 14 at 5:14 p.m.
According to V.I.P.D. Director of Communications Glen Dratte, on August 8 around 9:00 p.m., 17-year-old Merika Scafe went missing after being last seen at her home in Williams Delight wearing her St. Croix Educational Complex uniform.
Merika is a black female standing 4 feet, 11 inches tall, weighs about 100 pounds and has brown eyes, according to the V.I.P.D.
The V.I.P.D. said the female minor was reprimanded by her mother, after which the minor took her personal belongings, including IDs, and left her home on August 8th. It was the last time the mother had seen her or heard from her daughter until the minor reached out on August 12th. On that date the mother asked the minor to return home, but she refused and has not made contact with her mom since, according to the V.I. Police Department.
The V.I.P.D. is asking anyone who comes in contact with Merika, or who knows of her whereabouts, to contact Police Officer Jane Ann St. Hall at 340-778-2211, 911, or send an anonymous tip to Crime Stoppers USVI here.
