V.I. Taxpayers Get Six-Month Amnesty: If Delinquent Taxes are Paid, Penalties and Interest Will be Waived

Lt. Gov. Tregenza Roach announced Monday a six-month tax amnesty to assist taxpayers recovering from the devastating 2017 hurricane season.  During the amnesty period, Mr. Roach said, the government will not levy penalties or interest to taxpayers who pay delinquent taxes during an amnesty period established for the dates of January 18th to July 17th. Under Act No. 8271 of the Virgin Islands Code, penalties are waived for the payment of outstanding income taxes and waives interest and penalties for the payment of outstanding gross receipt taxes for all tax years to assist taxpayers recovering from the aftermath of Hurricanes Irma and Maria. “Property taxpayers may pay their delinquent taxes with 100 percent waiver of all interest and penalties. The amnesty period, effective January 18, 2020 is applicable until July 17, 2020,” Mr. Roach said in a prepared statement.
