ST. CROIX — St. Croix experienced a widespread power outage Tuesday night after a woman lost control of her vehicle while driving on the Melvin Evans Highway and slammed into a WAPA electrical pole. The power interruption affected customers from Frederiksted to Christiansted, according to accounts by residents.

WAPA said in an alert issued after 9:00 p.m. Tuesday that feeders 2A, 3A, 4A, 8B, and 10A were affected.

The victim survived the accident and was transported to the Juan F. Luis Hospital and Medical Center for treatment, according to V.I.P.D. Public Information Officer Toby Derima.

The accident occurred at the end of the Melvin Evans Highway in Frederiksted, according to police.

In separate power outage news, a WAPA alert issued at 6:03 a.m. Wednesday said a loss of generation capacity at the Richmond Power Plant in Christiansted resulted in an electrical service interruption to customers on feeders 2A, 3A, 4A, and 10A.

WAPA said power was restored to all customers by 6:15 a.m.
