Days after a V.I. Superior Court judge granted the prosecution’s request to have a 15-year-old murder suspect tried as an adult, the V.I. Police Department on Friday publicly released the teen's identity and confirmed he is now in adult custody.

Angelo Javier Carmona, the suspect in the June 5 fatal shooting of 38-year-old Jordan “Dutty Heart” Jones, has been formally charged in the Criminal Division of Superior Court following a transfer hearing held on June 25. That hearing marked the final procedural step to remove the case from juvenile jurisdiction. The VIPD’s announcement—naming Carmona for the first time—coincided with his June 27 arrest by the Major Crime Unit on an adult arrest warrant.

Carmona now faces a series of charges stemming from the daytime shooting on the Christiansted Boardwalk that left Jones dead and another man with minor injuries. Those charges include first-degree murder, first-degree assault, third-degree assault, reckless endangerment, first-degree robbery, unauthorized possession of a firearm during the commission of a crime of violence, and -possession of ammunition.

Bail for Carmona was set at $500,000. He was booked and transported to the John Bell Adult Correctional Facility after being unable to post bail. He remains in custody pending an Advice of Rights hearing scheduled for Monday, June 30, 2025, at the Superior Court.

Carmona was originally arrested hours after the June 5 shooting, following an investigation that included surveillance review and witness interviews by the Major Crime Unit and the Juvenile Investigation Bureau. He was first held at the Youth Rehabilitation Center before the Department of Justice secured his transfer to adult court.

According to earlier information released by the DOJ, the fatal shooting occurred just before 1:00 p.m. and resulted in multiple gunshot wounds to Jones, who died at Juan F. Luis Hospital. A bystander was grazed by a bullet while attempting to help and was treated for non-life-threatening injuries.

This case has drawn widespread attention from both the public and legal observers, marking one of the territory’s most closely watched juvenile-to-adult transfers in a homicide prosecution.
