ST. THOMAS — A woman was assaulted at her workplace in St. Thomas by a former acquaintance, leading to his arrest on multiple charges, the V.I. Police Department has announced. The incident, which was captured on surveillance footage, unfolded after a heated confrontation.
According to court documents, on Wednesday at about 4:58 p.m., the Domestic Violence Unit was notified that a female victim had reported being assaulted at the Richard Callwood Command Police Station. The victim stated that her former acquaintance, Ducson Antoine, came to her place of employment, where he forcefully took her cell phone, house keys, and vehicle keys before slapping her in the face.
Surveillance footage provided by the victim shows Antoine forcing his way into the business and assaulting her. The video depicts Antoine slapping the victim while she pleads with him and attempting to shield herself. The footage also shows the victim holding her face repeatedly after the assault.
The victim recounted that after Antoine left the business, he removed her vehicle from the location where she had parked it. She was forced to call a taxi to take her to the police station to report the incident.
Following the assault, Antoine reportedly told the victim, "If you don’t be with me, you can’t be with nobody else, and I don’t care if I go jail." He demanded that she call him immediately after work because he wanted to speak with her. When the victim refused, Antoine slapped her twice and warned, "This is the last day I need to speak to you."
Later Antoine, 35, turned himself in to the Domestic Violence Unit, where he was arrested and charged with unauthorized use of a vehicle, third-degree robbery, simple assault, and disturbance of the peace. No bail was set in this case per the Domestic Violence statute.
Antoine's advice of rights hearing was held today, however the V.I. Superior Court had not yet posted the memorandum at the time of publication.
The case is currently under investigation by the Domestic Violence Unit. Anyone with information about this crime is encouraged to notify 911, the Domestic Violence Unit at (340) 715-5535, or the Office of the Police Chief.
