ST. THOMAS -- A Norwegian Escape ship docked in St. Thomas on Monday was the site of a suicide incident, V.I.P.D. Media Specialist Sakeeda Freeman announced today.
According to Ms. Freeman, at roughly 4:12 a.m., the Criminal Investigation Bureau was notified of an apparent suicide aboard the Escape. Officials from the ship had notified the Virgin Islands Police Department Investigation Bureau that a male had apparently leaped from the 17th deck of the ship and landed on the 7th deck.
According to Ms. Freeman, an investigation revealed that 22-year-old David Svyatetskiy of Castle Rock, Colorado -- who was traveling with his family -- had sometime shortly after midnight on Monday, traveled to the 17th deck of the ship and jumped landing several decks below. Mr. Svyatetskiy succumbed to his injuries sustained during the fall, according to Ms. Freeman.
A preliminary investigation ruled the incident as a suicide.
