UVI President Appeals to Legislature to Allocate Funds to Reinstate Tennis Program

The 35th Legislature has been asked to “do more” than just rename the tennis courts at the UVI’s Orville E. Kean Campus on St. Thomas in honor of Fenella Cooper if they want to keep her legacy alive. The call came from David Hall, outgoing president of the University of the Virgin Islands, as he testified before members of the Senate Committee on Government Operations,Veteran Affairs and Consumer Protection  Going into more detail on how the Legislature could ensure Dr. Cooper’s impact is felt even after her passing in 2021, Dr. Hall encouraged lawmakers to make a “greater commitment to make sure that those facilities are cared for and enhanced for years to come.” He explained that when private individuals seek naming rights, “they provide endowment funds” that go toward upkeep.
