Original Post: The Virgin Islands Police Department will host a press briefing at 11:00 a.m. today, according to police spokesman Toby Derima. The briefing is in response to another deadly weekend on St. Croix, where two people were killed in separate shootings, one on Saturday night and another on Sunday afternoon.

Just last Monday, the V.I.P.D. held a press briefing in response to a deadly weekend in St. Thomas, where 6 people were shot, including 5 at one incident.

The V.I.P.D. is expected to plead with the community for help in bringing the criminals to justice. The force may also divulge additional details on the incidents.

Governor Albert Bryan hasn't issued a statement on the latest shootings, but he has continuously called on the community to provide information to law enforcement that would lead to the arrest of crime perpetrators.

The weekend homicides carried the territory's total for 2020 to 45. While the staggering number is unacceptable for any society, yearly double digits has been the norm in the USVI for 20 years.

The Consortium will carry the press briefing live on our Facebook platform and website.
