ST. CROIX — A 19-year-old man succumbed to injuries sustained during a drive-by shooting that occurred in Concordia West Saturday night.
According to V.I.P.D. Public Information Officer Toby Derima, on Saturday at about 8:20 p.m., the 911 Emergency Call Center received reports of shots being fired in Concordia West.
An investigation into the matter revealed a dark-colored car drove up in the Concordia Manor neighborhood and fired shots, striking a Hispanic male victim. He was transported to the Juan F. Luis Hospital & Medical Center by private vehicle for treatment, but later died from his injuries, according to Mr. Derima.
The victim was identified by next of kin as 19-year-old Nathaniel Felix. Felix's homicide death brings the territory's total for 2020 to 44. The 43rd homicide occurred in St. Thomas last weekend, where six people in total were shot, including five at one incident.
St. Croix District Chief of Police Sidney Elskoe said, “We have yet another family mourning the loss of a loved one. As I said before, we must come together as a community to say, ‘No more,’ to senseless gun violence.”
Chief Elskoe encouraged anyone with information in this incident to call 911, the Crime TipLine at (340) 778-4950, or call Crime Stoppers USVI at 1 (800) 222-TIPS.
"Remember, if you see something, say something," said the V.I.P.D.
