Traffic Stop in Castle Burke Area Leads to Gun Possession Arrest

ST. CROIX — V.I.P.D. officers on Saturday at approximately 7:16 p.m. arrested 26-year-old Jahseem A. Smith of Louis E. Brown Villas, and charged him with unauthorized possession of a firearm, possession or sale of ammunition and possession of a firearm within 1000 feet of a school.

The arrest was part of Phase 2 of the Virgin Islands Crime Initiative, according to police spokesman Toby Derima.

VICI officers conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle on Queen Mary Highway in the vicinity of the Castle Burke residential community. During the traffic stop, officers discovered a loaded firearm, according to the release. Smith does not have a license to carry a firearm in the U.S. Virgin Islands, and was arrested.

Unable to post bail in the amount of $50,000, Smith was turned over to the custody of the Bureau of Corrections pending his advisement hearing.
