ST. CROIX — A man from the Candido Guadalupe Terrace Housing Community was arrested on Friday for what the V.I. Police Department say was his involvement in the 2018 murder of another man in the Mutual Homes Housing Community.

According to V.I.P.D. Public Information Officer Toby Derima, Dion Williams, 21, was arrested at 9:38 a.m. today and charged with first-degree murder for his role in the homicide of David Gonzalez Jr., which took place on Oct. 27, 2018. Williams was the second man to be arrested for the homicide. In January, police arrested Voshon A. Vallarde, age 22 of Barren Spot, in connection with the same incident.

Unable to make bail of $1 million, Williams was remanded to the Golden Grove Detention Center pending his advisement hearing.

According to a V.I.P.D. release in 2018 of the homicide, Gonzalez was shot to death will leaving his apartment in Mutual Homes during the afternoon time of Oct. 27.

Calls were placed to the 911 emergency call center at roughly 3:40 p.m., and officers were immediately dispatched to the scene, according to then-V.I.P.D. Public Information Officer Glen Dratte.

Upon arrival, the officers discovered a Hispanic male lying lifeless in the parking lot outside the apartment, his upper body riddled with bullets, according to Mr. Dratte.

A preliminary investigation at the time revealed that the victim was leaving the apartment building with a female companion when three masked men approached him and shot him multiple times and fled the area, Mr. Dratte said.

The V.I.P.D. is asking anyone with information about the 2018 homicide to call 911, the Crime TipLine at (340) 778-4950, or contact Crime Stoppers USVI with an anonymous tip here.
