ST. THOMAS — Virgin Island Police and the U.S. Marshals Fugitive Task Force arrested a 29-year-old man early Saturday for the May murder of Curtis Fredericks at the Edward Blyden Marine Terminal.
Azamba Galloway of Kirwan Terrace was charged with first-degree murder and with reckless endangerment and third-degree assault in an unrelated incident in August 2019.
In that August 2019 incident, Galloway allegedly evaded officers during a traffic stop in the vicinity of Kmart in Sugar Estate. He is alleged to have tried to run officers over with his vehicle to evade capture. And he did. Until early Saturday morning.
At Galloway’s advisement hearing, his bail was set at $500,000 for the murder charge and $50,000 for the assault charge. He had no money to make bail, so police remanded Galloway to the Bureau of Corrections.
St. Thomas / St. John Police Chief Ludrick Thomas commended officers for their work in this and other cases. “I appreciate the focused work of our officers, along with our Federal partners, to ensure our streets are safe,” Chief Thomas said. He encouraged the community to come forward with any information they may have on incidents to help the VIPD solve crimes.
