ST. CROIX — A man is facing criminal charges after allegedly pointing a gun at his neighbors.
A call came through the 911 Emergency Call Center on March 2, reporting that a man had been brandishing a weapon at his neighbor. Officers responding to the location in Mahogany Welcome found a man fitting the suspect’s description, talking loudly on his front porch. Subsequently identified as Kevik David, the man complained to police that his neighbors were constantly trespassing on his property and that he wanted them to leave him alone. He denied having any firearms or pellet rifles that day.
Police were not able to meet with the individual who called 911, but they did speak to another neighbor who said that he too had been menaced by David. The man said that he was coming back home to his apartment when he found David outside, cursing and aiming a long gun at him. The man told police that he ignored David and went inside his home. Police then instructed David to refrain from making threats, cursing and aiming firearms at his neighbors.
Investigations revealed that David had previously pled guilty to possession or sale of ammunition and was placed on supervised probation for a year. A firearms check proved that he did not have a license to carry a firearm in the territory.
On March 14, officers executed a search warrant on David’s residence and found a replica Sig Sauer P320 handgun, a Virtus PCP rifle along with a canister attachment, and a variety of pellets in David’s bedroom.
Approximately a week later, the man who had made the initial 911 call presented himself to police and told them that he witnessed David threatening to kill one of their neighbors while pointing an assault rifle at him. The man said that David then turned the weapon towards him while threatening his life as well. Fearing for his life, the man said he fled the area before calling authorities to report the incident.
In an attempt to identify the perpetrator, police showed the man multiple photos. He immediately pointed to David as the one who had trained the gun on him.
On March 27, police formally interviewed the neighbor about the incident, who provided additional details and identified David from among several photos of different people as the one who had pointed the gun at him.
David was subsequently arrested and charged with carrying or using a dangerous weapon, unauthorized possession of a firearm, third-degree assault and disturbance of the peace.
His advice of rights hearing was scheduled for Monday April 3, 2023.
