ST. CROIX — A 22-year-old male, Gabriel St. Kitts, has been arrested following an investigation by the V.I. Police Department's Economic Crimes Unit into a complaint of forgery lodged by Banco Popular de Puerto Rico bank branch in Sunny Isles.
On June 22, the VIPD initiated an investigation into the case where St. Kitts allegedly presented a stolen check for $1,425 with a forged signature at the Banco Popular drive-thru in Sunny Isles. The complaint was filed by the owner of the stolen check.
After the police arrested St. Kitts, they took him to a police station. There, they informed him of his Miranda Rights, which are his legal rights to remain silent and to have a lawyer present during questioning. St. Kitts chose not to sign a document acknowledging these rights and decided to use them, meaning he did not want to speak without a lawyer present.
Subsequently, St. Kitts was charged with multiple offenses including forgery, obtaining money by false pretenses, grand larceny, and buying, receiving or possessing stolen property.
Unable to post bail set at $20,000, St. Kitts was remanded to the John A. Bell Adult Correctional Facility. He is awaiting his Advise of Rights Hearing.
