ST. CROIX — A man is facing criminal charges after his ex-girlfriend called police, saying that he refused to get out of her vehicle.
Police responding to a 911 call arrived at Bethlehem Village on Sunday, April 9, and met with a woman who said that her ex-boyfriend Kalimba Joseph had slapped her in the face multiple times. He hit her, she told the officers, after she pulled him out of her vehicle and asked him to leave. Joseph was being disrespectful, she said, wanting her to drive her vehicle without functioning brakes. When she refused, he urged her to use the emergency handbrake to stop the car when needed.
Police spoke to Joseph, who admitted that he had struck the woman in her face at least twice, because according to him she would not release him after pulling him out of her vehicle. He also admitted that he refused to leave when she asked.
Joseph was placed under arrest and charged with simple assault and battery as an act of domestic violence, and disturbance of the peace. At his advice of rights hearing on Monday, the latter charge was dropped and Joseph was assessed cash bail of $101 dollars.
His next court hearing is scheduled for April 26.
