ST. CROIX — A 21-year-old man, Danisel Bautista Diaz, has been arrested in connection with a domestic violence incident. Bautista Diaz, a resident of Lagoon Street Complex in Fredriksted, turned himself in at the V.I. Police Department's Wilbur Francis Command on Friday, where he was arrested without incident.
The suspect is accused of forcibly entering his intimate female partner's residence and assaulting her by grabbing her throat until she could not breathe. Following the assault, Bautista Diaz fled the scene, taking his partner's phone and chain, which he forcefully removed from her neck, according to the V.I.P.D.
In line with the domestic violence statute, no bail was set for Bautista Diaz. He has been remanded to the John Bell Correctional Facility and is scheduled to attend an advice of rights hearing at 9:00 a.m. on April 24, 2023.
