Excise Tax Online Service Has Improved, BIR Says, Taxpayers Invited To Demonstration

ST. CROIX -- Bureau of Internal Revenue Director Marvin Pickering, pictured above, announced on Monday via press release the launch of additional improvements to the Excise Tax website, which is used to pay excise tax on goods imported into the territory. The excise tax online system, implemented on March 3, 2014, allows brokers and other taxpayers to enter their own excise tax returns prior to visiting the Excise Tax Offices on all three islands. This reduces time spent in the Bureau’s excise tax offices. “We are now poised to launch additional improvements, suggested by both the Excise Tax Officers and the taxpaying public, that are aimed to further expedite the excise tax experience, Mr. Pickering said. "It is our ultimate goal to launch online payment of excise taxes in the near future." According to the release, the new changes will be demonstrated to excise tax brokers and any other interested taxpayers on Tuesday, November 3, 2015, at the Charles W.
