ST. CROIX, USVI — The V.I. Consortium will launch its regional news product, called "VIC Regional News", on October 5, a major step in company founder Ernice Gilbert's vision to bring the Caribbean ever closer together through coverage of politics, culture and the major events affecting the region.
The bold effort is another big move for Mr. Gilbert, who just last November unveiled the company's redesigned website, followed by the launch of the VI Consortium app in June, and now the nightly streaming news product whose tagline is "Uniting the Caribbean". Mr. Gilbert said the latest undertaking is the company's most significant since he founded V.I. Consortium in August 2014.
Mr. Gilbert, who is also the publisher at V.I. Consortium, said today's announcement serves as a teaser, and that more information would be forthcoming about the product. "Since we released the teaser video today, I thought it prudent to provide at least some information to the public, but there will be a more detailed release from us coming soon, including our anchor and more."
The news product, he said, will be available nightly from 7:30 p.m. and will last for half an hour. It will be live-streamed on the company's Facebook page, which is currently the largest in all of the Virgin Islands with over 198,000 followers. It will also be streamed directly on the V.I. Consortium website and on Instagram nightly, said Mr. Gilbert.
