The Virgin Islands Senior Men’s National Basketball team is all set to compete in their annual Paradise Jam Summer Tour in partnership with Basketball Travelers for the second time in three years.

This year, the team will go up against the men's basketball team from Wagner College, who will be spending the week from July 31st to August 5th on the island, not only competing against the national team but also soaking in the stunning island culture.

The University of the Virgin Islands will be the venue for two head-to-head matches between Team ISV and Wagner, scheduled for August 2nd and 3rd, 2023 at 6:30 p.m. on both nights. In a departure from last year's event, this year, fans are actively encouraged to attend the games and cheer their hearts out.

This event follows a successful game in 2021 during the pandemic when the University of Missouri-Kansas City women’s basketball team played against an all-star women’s team from St. Croix. Regrettably, fans could not attend those games due to Covid-19 protocols, but this year the situation is different. Fans are being invited back to bring the noise and create a fantastic atmosphere for the games.

The games on home turf are just the beginning of an exciting journey for Team ISV. Following the Paradise Jam Summer Tour games, the team will depart for Argentina on August 11th, where they will be participating in the FIBA Olympic Pre-Qualifying Tournament 2023 – Americas.

As the games draw closer, Paradise Jam recalled a bit of history: the first Virgin Islander to be drafted by the NBA was Ray Hodge back in 1970. Interestingly, Hodge, who is also an All American, played his college basketball at none other than Wagner College. His legacy lives on in the Hall of Fame at Wagner College Athletics, marking a unique tie to this upcoming face-off.
