Aliyah Boston Has Chance To Tie Southeastern Conference Record During Nationally Televised Game

Aliyah Boston will have an opportunity to record her 19th straight double-double and tie the Southeastern Conference record for most consecutive double-doubles today, when No. 1 South Carolina plays No. 12. Tennessee on ABC at 2:00 p.m. AST.

Since the Consortium updated her double-double streak after it reached 10 games, Boston and South Carolina have won eight straight games. 

Boston recorded her 11th straight double-double in a 61-52 victory over Arkansas where she had 19 points and 13 rebounds. 

In the team’s next win, a 85-30 blowout victory over Vanderbilt, Boston scored 11 points, had 12 rebounds, 4 steals and 2 blocks. 

Boston then scored 22 points, had 12 rebounds in a 69-40 home victory over then-ranked No. 24 Ole Miss.

Boston had 13 points, 19 rebounds and 3 blocks to keep the streak alive in a 62-50 victory over Florida .

Her 15th straight double double came in a 83-51 victory over Alabama when she scored 20 points, had 10 rebounds and six blocks. 

Against Kentucky, Boston had 14 points and 15 rebounds in a 59-50 victory.

The team then went on the road and beat No. 17 Georgia 72-54 in a game that Boston had 18 points and 12 rebounds. 

In the team’s last game, Boston had 10 points and 12 rebounds as South Carolina defeated Auburn 75-38.

Boston’s streak has propelled her as a serious contender for National Player of the Year. She has averaged 16.8 points, 11.9 rebounds and 2.8 blocks per game this season. 

The conference record for consecutive double doubles is held by Sylvia Fowles who had 19 straight double-doubles in the 2005-06 season for LSU.

Boston was named to three national Player of the Season watch lists for the 2021-2022 season: the Naismith Trophy, The Wade Trophy and the Wooden Award.

Boston was also named a pre-season All-American by the Associated Press and USA Today.

Additionally, she was named to the Lisa Leslie Award watchlist, an award she won in her first two seasons in college basketball, which is presented to the best center in women’s college basketball. Boston is the only player to receive this award twice in the four years it has been presented.

During her sophomore campaign, Boston was a finalist for the Naismith Award, a finalist for the Naismith Defensive Player of the Year, and the Athletic's Women’s Basketball player of the year.
