Virgin Island native Aliyah Boston recorded her 10th straight double double and broke South Carolina’s program record for consecutive double doubles after scoring 19 points and grabbing 15 rebounds in South Carolina’s 65-45 victory over Texas A&M on Thursday.
During her stretch of double doubles, Boston has averaged 19.2 points per game and 14.2 rebounds. South Carolina went 9-1 durning Boston’s streak with five of those victories coming against teams ranked in the Top 25.
The streak started in late November against North Carolina A&T when she had 29 points and 14 rebounds in a 79-42 victory.
The streak continued against Kansas State when she scored 21 points and 17 rebounds in a 65-44 win.
In a 66-59 victory against then-ranked No. 8 Maryland, Boston had 16 points, 16 rebounds and 7 blocks.
The fourth game of Boston’s historic streak was against then-ranked No. 15 Duke in a game where she scored 19 points and secured 14 rebounds in a 55-46 victory.
Boston scored 18 points and had 11 rebounds in South Carolina's 65-61 victory over then-No. 2 Stanford to extend the streak to five games.
In South Carolina’s lone loss of the season, Boston had 17 points and 12 rebounds against Missouri in a 70-69 loss in overtime.
Against Mississippi State, Boston had 16 points and 11 rebounds in an 80-68 victory.
Boston extended the streak to eight when she scored 19 points and hauled in 18 rebounds in a 66-60 win against then ranked No. 13 LSU.
She tied the streak against then-ranked No. 21 Kentucky with 18 points and 15 rebounds in a 74-54 victory.
Over the course of the season she has averaged 17.2 points per game and 11.4 rebounds. Her 11.4 rebounds per game is the 11th highest in the country.
Boston’s dominance on the stat sheet doesn’t stop with her scoring and rebounding ability as she is sixth in the country in blocks per game with an average of 3.13 blocks this year as stated by NCAA.com.
The Southeastern Conference Record for consecutive double doubles in the last 20 years is 19.
South Carolina has posted a win-loss record of 16-1 this year and is the top ranked team in both the Associated Press and Coaches Polls’ most recent rankings.
South Carolina’s next game will be against Arkansas on Sunday at 4:30 pm AST and will be televised on ESPN2.
Boston was named to three national player of the season watch lists for the 2021-2022 season, the Naismith Trophy, The Wade Trophy and the Wooden Award.
Boston was also named a pre-season All-American by the Associated Press and USA Today.
Additionally, she was named to the Lisa Leslie Award watchlist, an award she won in her first two seasons in college basketball, which is presented to the best center in women’s college basketball. She is the only player to receive this award twice in the four years it has been presented.
During her sophomore campaign, Boston was a finalist for the Naismith Award, a finalist for the Naismith Defensive Player of the Year, and the Athletic's Women’s Basketball player of the year.
In her first two seasons, she averaged a double double with career averages of 13.1 points and 10.4 rebounds per game. She was fifth in the country in double-doubles last season with 17.
