The Office of the Lieutenant Governor is inviting residents of St. Thomas and St. Croix to take part in an important community-driven effort: naming roads that currently lack official street names.

This call for participation comes as the Street Addressing Initiative (SAI) moves into its next phase. Following the successful completion of Phase One on St. John in 2024, the focus has now shifted to identifying and naming streets in the territory’s two largest islands.

Lieutenant Governor Tregenza Roach, who is spearheading the initiative, emphasized the importance of establishing a standardized street naming system across the U.S. Virgin Islands. “This initiative, which is aimed at creating a clear, logical, and standardized addressing system for the U.S. Virgin Islands, will make it easier to locate homes and businesses, will improve emergency response times, and will enhance services from utility providers and delivery companies,” he said. “This is our chance to be part of our community’s story – by choosing a name that honors our history, reflects the environment, or celebrates our culture”.

Residents who live on unnamed streets are encouraged to submit suggestions for new road names or verify the names of roads already in common use but not yet officially recognized. To participate, individuals must complete a Road Name Request form, circulate it within their neighborhood, and submit it to the Office of the Lieutenant Governor. Submissions must be received no later than September 30, 2025, to be considered as part of the ongoing street addressing project.

The Office’s Geographic Information Systems (GIS) Division will assist residents throughout the process and provide guidance to ensure that community submissions align with naming protocols.

For more information on the Street Addressing Initiative and Community Naming Protocols—or to access and submit Road Name Request forms—residents may visit the SAI website at https://sites.google.com/view/usvi-sai/home. Alternatively, they can contact the SAI team by calling 340-693-619 or emailing [email protected].
