After an evening of fierce competition, Britanny Robinson emerged victorious on Sunday when she was crowned Miss Universe U.S. Virgin Islands 2025.
Ms. Robinson competed against Orealia Thomas and Kyandra Smith for the title in an almost four-hour show, held in the auditorium of the St. Croix Educational Complex High School. Contestants showcased their poise, grace, and presence of mind across five judged segments, including an pre-pageant interview held before the cameras started rolling.
The first judged segment of the evening was swimwear. Ms. Robinson emerged in a hot pink monokini featuring side cut-outs, while Ms. Thomas opted for an orange number, the straps crossing at the neck. Her suit was accompanied by a matching cape, which she discarded during her time on stage for extra flair. Meanwhile, Ms. Smith's blue suit featured a unique construction, with a more structured neckline than usual. Ultimately, judges assessed Ms. Robinson as the winner of this segment.
The next segment was Festival Carnival Queen. Ms. Robinson's white and emerald costume was adorned with feathers and carried design features reminiscent of an indigenous warrior. Ms. Thomas opted for madras resplendence in a ballgown design, with the iconic Virgin Islands pattern enhanced with gold, gems and feathers. Ms. Smith's costume brought to life the mythology of the territory, depicting the cow-foot woman local parents invoke to admonish badly-behaved children. The red dress and headpiece also cleverly paid homage to the famed “Crucian breed” cattle, while the green “bush” at her back represented both the preferred feed of the cattle and where the cow-foot woman prefers to lie in wait for her unsuspecting victims. Ultimately, Ms. Robinson and Ms. Smith tied for first place in this category.
For evening wear, Ms. Robinson opted for a one-shouldered column gown rendered in a sequined red fabric, with a slash of transparent mesh running down the front right side. A length of chiffon trailing from the shoulder gave the piece movement and drama. Ms. Thomas opted for a deep emerald gown, with lines of sequins forming a glittering patterns against the dark green fabric. Two chiffon panels in a similar color adorned her diamante-encrusted shoulders, billowing behind her as she strutted across the stage. Ms. Smith chose a pink sequined fabric for her gown, which was interspersed with nude mesh to give an ombre effect. The gown featured a dramatic fall of ruffles along the leg slit as well as a heavily slanted neckline offset with a large shoulder ruffle on one side. Judges gave Ms. Smith the nod in this category.
When it came time for their on-stage interviews, all three contestants responded to the same question; if crowned Miss Universe Virgin Islands, how would they “promote who we are while retaining our authenticity as a people?” Ms. Robinson was confident that authenticity would shine through because of her lived experience as a Virgin Islander. She imagined telling her people's story through the territory's local fabric, educating about the history and culture of the Virgin Islands in that way. Meanwhile, Ms. Thomas said that the territory's three carnivals would be her preferred vehicle to market and promote the Virgin Islands as a destination. For Ms. Smith, mentorship would be the key to becoming a successful ambassador to the territory.
When all the points were tallied at the end of the evening, Britanny Robinson stood 59 points ahead of second place contestant Kyandra Smith. For the first time in Miss Universe VI pageant history, a reigning Miss Universe was on hand to witness the crowning of this year's territorial delegate. Once Ms. Robinson had been announced as this year's queen, Victoria Kjaer Theilvig, Miss Universe 2024, congratulated the new Miss Universe Virgin Islands on her victory.
Now, Ms. Robinson will focus on honing her pageant skills as she prepares for Thailand, where she will be representing the Virgin Islands at the Miss Universe competition in November.
