The V.I. Housing Authority has decided to tweak its organizational structure, eliminating an assistant director position and creating a role for a human resources director.

When the VIHA board met on Tuesday, resolution 3730 was one of those approved. The resolution called on commissioners to make the change in order to align with the entity's strategic goals. Executive Director Dwayne Alexander reminded commissioners that the change was approved by the board last December. Now that the position of assistant director of resident wellness has become vacant, it will not be filled. “We have adequate staff over there,” he noted.

Instead, “we desperately need an HR director.” That individual would “oversee the development of HR policies and practices, manage employee relations, and contribute to executive decision making,” he said.

The resolution was easily approved, as were all the ones raised earlier in the meeting. These included a 12-month extension of VIHA's legal services contract with Dudley-Rich, at a maximum cost of $150,000. Contracts with EMJ Enterprise LLC, Continental Construction Engineering LLC, and Mel Branch Construction for repairs to VIHA properties on St. Croix and St. Thomas were also approved, with an estimated total value of $1 million.
