Governor Albert Bryan on Monday clarified further how residents who qualify for the $250 vaccination reward will be paid. Mr. Bryan previously explained how participants would qualify, but how those individuals would get paid remained a mystery.
On Monday, speaking during the administration's Covid-19 response update, the governor made it clear following a Consortium query: "They're going to be issued a bank card. We're working with the banks to get the special go card," Mr. Bryan said, referring to prepaid debit cards that are disposed after use.
He added, "You will be contacted by the Dept. of Health. If we have your address it will be mailed directly to you so you can get that incentive and get going. Those should be available within the next two weeks or so. If there's any delay further than that we're just going to start cutting checks through the Dept. of Finance."
Two weeks ago, the governor clarified qualification for the incentive."When I originally said it, it was for people to be incentivized to take the first shot and only those people would have gotten paid when they took their second shot. [But] because of all the people calling... saying foul, we're just going to pay anybody who got a shot between the day I said it and the day it cuts off, but you have to get your second shot," he said. Mr. Bryan first announced the $250 reward August 9.
He added, "If you don't get it by the first week in September you're not going to qualify for the $250."
The $250 is good through Sept. 30, according to the governor. Mr. Bryan has also said individuals who receive the $250 will still be eligible for the “Vax-to-Win” lottery.
