Governor Albert Bryan has officially appointed Antonio Stevens as the acting director of the V.I. Fire and Emergency Medical Services, entrusting the leadership of the agency to a seasoned professional with a rich background in emergency response.
Mr. Stevens, who is stepping up from his current role as assistant director, has dedicated over 17 years of service to the V.I. Fire Service. His experience is further enhanced by his critical role as the Territorial Hazardous Material/Weapon of Mass Destruction coordinator, where he has honed his expertise in managing complex emergency situations, according Gov't House.
With an associate of science in criminal justice and a bachelor of science in homeland security and emergency management from Colorado Technical University, Stevens's educational achievements complement his comprehensive field experience, Gov't House said, adding that this combination has equipped him with a deep understanding of the strategic and operational aspects necessary to navigate the unique challenges of VIFEMS.
Governor Bryan expressed his confidence in Mr. Stevens's ability to lead the agency through its current period of change, citing his "unwavering dedication to the people of the United States Virgin Islands."
Mr. Stevens's appointment is seen as a commitment to uphold the agency's mission to deliver top-notch emergency medical and fire services to the residents of the Virgin Islands.
Meanwhile, the administration has announced plans for late Fire Director Daryl A. George's funeral arrangements, which includes a candlelight vigil and public funeral services.
