Watch: Scenes From This Year's Sunset BBQ

ST. CROIX -- The St. Croix Foundation's Sunset BBQ event -- marked by small-portioned offerings from the island’s top chefs and restaurants (think of it as a mini version of A Taste of St. Croix) -- was yet another success. The event, held on Friday night as part of the foundation's weeklong Food and Wine Experience, mixed entertainment -- Rising Stars Steel Orchestra and R&B Connection -- with great food, boasting some of St. Croix's best chefs while highlighting those up and coming, including students from the St. Croix Educational Complex.

Upcoming events include "Wine in the Warehouse", which takes place at the Bohlke International Airways hanger today at 6:00 p.m., and the "Gourmet Vintner Dinner", happening at the Ha'Penny Bay Beach Club on Monday at 6:00 p.m.

All the events serve as fundraisers for the foundation -- a hybrid community foundation serving as both a grant maker as well as an operating foundation that provides direct services and leadership to improve the socioeconomic welfare of the territory, according to a blurb on the foundation's website.

Established in 1990, the foundation was created to respond to the damage wrought by Hurricane Hugo in 1989. With 90 percent of structures destroyed and infrastructure devastated, the foundation's founders believed that the arduous task of rebuilding demanded immediate leadership, and that a community foundation would provide the most flexibility to address the challenges the USVI faced, according to the foundation's website.
