St. Thomas is set to witness an important event in education with the opening of Coral Reef Academy (CRA) in August. CRA is a specialized school focusing on providing tailored educational experiences for students in grades K-4 diagnosed with autism.
The school’s program is designed to foster holistic development, emphasizing individualized academic progress, social skill enhancement, and nurturing independence in students, according to a release issued Monday.
Under the leadership of Dr. Jody Miller, CRA said it is committed to creating an inclusive and supportive learning environment. This initiative is backed by a team of skilled educators and professionals dedicated to utilizing evidence-based practices that cater to the unique needs of each student. The school’s curriculum is adaptive and engaging, ensuring that every child receives personalized attention and support, the organization said.
CRA said its approach extends beyond academics, prioritizing collaboration between educators, parents, and the broader community. This partnership aims to build a strong support network, enhancing the educational journey of each student and fostering a sense of community involvement.
Previously operational in St. Croix since 2018, CRA has been a pioneer in the Virgin Islands, offering specialized educational opportunities to students with autism, ADHD, and other developmental disabilities. The expansion to St. Thomas marks a significant step in providing quality education to a wider range of students with special needs.
