U.S. Dept. of Housing and Urban Development headquarters.

The V.I. Housing Finance Authority has announced the availability of the Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) 2022 grant year applications.

According to the release, CDBG is a HUD formula-allocation grant, which has as its primary objective the development of viable urban communities by providing decent housing, suitable living environment, and expanded economic opportunities. Each funded project must meet at least one of the three national objectives: prevention of slums/blight; address an urgent need; provision of employment of other benefits primarily to low/mod income persons.

Primary benefit to low/mod income persons means:

  • at least 51% of the direct beneficiaries of an activity or area residents are low-income
  • the activity benefits a population generally presumed to be low-income
  • housing is created that will be restricted to occupancy by low-income households
  • jobs are created/retained and at least 51% of the jobs will be held or available to low/mod income residents

CDBG is particularly interested in receiving proposals for programs providing mental health services, homeless services, after-school care and/or summer programs with emphasis on academic enhancement for youth ages 4-16.  Applicants may also submit proposals for projects/programs other than those listed above.

Eligible applicants include nonprofit and faith-based organizations, governmental agencies, and for-profit entities (economic development activities only).
