V.I. Police Department Releases Video of Fatal Shooting at Bolongo Bay Garbage Site

ST. THOMAS — In a significant development to the ongoing homicide investigation in Bolongo Bay, the V.I. Police Department released a video on Monday showing the shooting death of a Waste Management employee. The video aims to assist in identifying the suspect involved in the fatal incident that took place on Friday, August 11, 2023.

The video, seen below, shows a male individual with dreadlocks approaching a work booth at the garbage site in Bolongo Bay. The suspect is seen firing several shots at the victim before fleeing the scene.

The deceased has been identified as 39-year-old Daryn Hodge, a resident of St. Thomas and an employee of the V.I. Waste Management Authority. According to Glen Dratte, VIPD Director of Communications, Hodge was on duty and stationed at his post when he was shot in the upper body.

The initial incident was reported at 3:36 p.m., shortly after multiple calls were made to the 911 Emergency Call Center about a male being shot. Police arriving at the scene confirmed it as a homicide.

The VIPD's Major Crimes Unit is leading an active and ongoing investigation into this case. Authorities are urging anyone with information about the incident or the suspect seen in the video to come forward. Tips and information can be submitted through multiple channels:
