The V.I. National Guard in a release issued Saturday acknowledged that one of its airmen, Aaron Henry, was charged with several counts of rape along with assault and sexual contact charges.

"The Virgin Islands National Guard is aware of the allegations made against Henry and is attentively following his case and taking appropriate measures in accordance with all applicable law and Air Force regulations," V.I.N.G. said.

The Virgin Islands Police Department announced last week that 23-year-old Henry was arrested on Thursday at 5:55 p.m. and charged with two counts of rape, one count of assault and one count of unlawful sexual contact in connection with an incident that occurred on July 23.

According to the police report, Henry allegedly raped a female on July 23. Police did not say whether the female was a minor or an adult. V.I.P.D. Public Information Officer Toby Derima said information on the victim's age was not provided.

Henry was charged with first-degree rape, second-degree aggravated rape, first-degree assault, and first-degree unlawful sexual contact, according to the V.I.P.D. news release.

V.I.N.G. said its primary goal is to "uphold a climate where Service members live the Army and Air core values, knowing that sexual assault has no place in the Guard and will not be tolerated."

Henry was able to post bail of $150,000, and he was released to a third-party custodian pending his advisement hearing.
