ST. CROIX — Two St. Croix men were arrested Wednesday for allegedly stealing the backpack of a victim that contained cash on March 24, V.I.P.D. Public Information Officer Toby Derima has announced.
According to the release, on May 26 at roughly 6:51 a.m., officers with the V.I.P.D.'s Criminal Investigation and Special Operations Bureaus arrested Omarion Francis, age 18 of La Grange. Shortly afterwards, 19-year-old Luis Navarro of Walter I.M. Hodge Pavilion, an alleged co-conspirator, turned himself in to police.
Both men were arrested on warrants issued by the Superior Court of the Virgin Islands, and were charged with grand Larceny and possession of stolen property. Francis and Navarro are accused of stealing a backpack that contained cash from a victim. The incident occurred on Benny Benjamin Drive on March 24.
Francis was previously arrested for his involvement in an Oct. 2020 incident at the Emerald Beach Resort in St. Thomas, where he was charged with stolen firearm, reckless endangerment, constructive possession of a firearm, possession of stolen property, and possession of ammunition.
Unable to make bail of $50,000, both men were remanded to the Golden Grove Correctional Facility pending their advisement hearings.
