Scene of Havensight Shooting in St. Thomas on Friday, Sept. 17, 2021.

ST. THOMAS — Two individuals were shot and one died during a shooting incident in Havensight Friday night, a person with knowledge of the matter has confirmed to the Consortium — information that was corroborated by the V.I. Police Department. Separately on Friday, a gunshot victim showed up at the Schneider Regional Medical Center for treatment, and in a third incident, a man was beaten and burned in Bordeaux.

The three incidents were confirmed by V.I. Police Commissioner Ray Martinez, who told the Consortium Saturday morning that the V.I.P.D. had an extremely busy Friday in St. Thomas, and that all the incidents were being actively investigated.

Shooting in Havensight Leaves One Dead, One Wounded

According to the commissioner, at 10:25 p.m. Friday, the 911 Emergency Call Center was notified of shots fired and a man down in Havensight, and police were immediately dispatched to the scene. Upon arrival, the officers met a male who had succumbed to his injuries along with a second male victim who had been injured by gunfire. The second victim was transported to the hospital for treatment.

Both victims were said to be together, and Mr. Martinez said vehicles were seen leaving the area at a high rate of speed.

Gunshot Victim at Schneider Hospital

At 10:58 p.m., nurses at the Schneider Regional Medical Center called 911 to report that a gunshot victim walked into the hospital. The individual as of Saturday morning had not provided information relative to where or how he was shot. "We are actively investigating all of these cases," the commissioner said.

Male Beaten, Badly Burned in Bordeaux

Earlier Friday evening, at about 6:20 p.m. in Bordeaux, police received a call regarding a male who had been beaten up and burned. The V.I.P.D. responded to the scene where they observed the victim, who was immediately transported to SRMC for treatment.

V.I.P.D. detectives started obtaining information from the victim, but details related to what occurred were difficult to gather as the victim's burn injuries were extensive, said the commissioner. The victim was alive as of early Saturday morning.

A source with knowledge of the investigations told the Consortium that three of the victims of Friday's incidents — the two shot at Havensight and the one who was beaten and burned — were from the island of St. John. This source also told the Consortium that the Havensight shooting and Bordeaux incident appeared to be related.

Mr. Martinez, when asked for confirmation on whether those incidents were tied to each other, said it was too early in the investigation to make any determinations.

Friday night's homicide in St. Thomas carried the territory's total to 34: 25 on St. Croix, 8 on St. Thomas and 1 on St. John.
