ST. THOMAS — A Texas woman who admitted to stealing thousands of dollars worth of jewelry from a St. John store was detained Friday at the Cyril E. King Airport trying to leave the territory with the stolen items, announced V.I.P.D. Public Information Officer Toby Derima.

According to the news release, on Friday at around 12:30 p.m., police arrested 54-year-old Jennifer A. Northcutt of Richardson, Texas, and charged her with grand larceny and possession of stolen property.

On Thursday, employees of the Vibe Collection jewelry store in Cruz Bay, St. John noticed several pieces of jewelry were missing. Upon reviewing the store’s surveillance video, the employees observed Northcutt collecting various pieces of jewelry, valued in the thousands of dollars. Video footage captured her leaving the store without paying for the items. Law enforcement was contacted upon discovery, Mr. Derima said.

Northcutt was detained by Customs & Border Protection officers on April 30 at the Cyril E. King Airport as she attempted to leave the territory. In a statement, she admitted to larceny and being in possession of the stolen items.

Unable to post bail of $20,000, Northcutt was remanded to the Bureau of Corrections pending her advisement hearing.
