St. Thomas Man Arrested After Police Find Loaded Unlicensed Firearm, Marijuana in His Vehicle

ST. THOMAS — V.I.P.D. officers on Friday at around 4:35 p.m. arrested Carlos Colon, Jr., age 26 of Estate Thomas on firearm and drug possession charges, announced police spokesman Toby Derima.

Colon was charged with possession of an unlicensed firearm, possession of ammunition, and simple possession of a controlled substance.

According to the news release, officers on patrol conducted a traffic stop on a white Acura TSX, operated by Colon. During the course of the traffic stop, Colon was found with a loaded firearm on his person and marijuana was found in the vehicle. A firearms license check was conducted, and it was revealed that Colon did not have a license to possess a firearm in the Virgin Islands. He was arrested as a result of possessing the firearm and the marijuana. 

Unable to make bail of $50,000, Colon was remanded to the Bureau of Corrections pending his advisement hearing.
