ST. CROIX — The V.I. Police Department is investigating a shooting incident that has led to the second gun-related death for 2021.
According to V.I.P.D. Public Information Officer Toby Derima, on Saturday at around 11:07 p.m., the 911 Emergency Call Center dispatched officers to the Juan F. Luis Hospital in reference to a gunshot victim.
Officers learned that a male gunshot victim was transported to the hospital via private vehicle, according to the release. The driver reported to police that he and the victim were at the Container Port Road to view illegal car races when he heard a gunshot. The driver noticed the victim was injured, needed help, and drove him to the hospital, Mr. Derima said. The victim succumbed to his injury a short time later.
The victim was identified by next of kin as 19-year-old William Isaac of Aureo Diaz Heights.
