ST. THOMAS — A man who is currently serving a one-year suspended sentence is back before the courts after he assaulted a woman in a fast food establishment.
Police were summoned to the Wendy's in Fourwinds Plaza on Friday afternoon. There, they spoke with an employee who told them that a man had entered the restaurant and accosted a female customer, demanding that she buy him a soft drink. The woman reportedly declined, following which the man reportedly pushed her to the ground and picked up a chair.
He raised the chair over his head, but before he could bring it down on the frightened woman, the employee intervened and chased the aggressive man out of the store. Police found him near the Fourwinds Laundry and identified him as Koi Thomas. He was arrested and transported to the Criminal Investigation Bureau for processing. While there, Mr. Thomas reportedly exposed himself in the presence of several female police officers, inviting them to perform a lewd act on his genitals.
After being restrained once again to curb his behavior, he was charged with third-degree assault, possessing a dangerous weapon during a crime of violence, disturbance of the peace, and indecent exposure. He was remanded into custody to await his first court appearance.
An advice of rights hearing for Thomas was scheduled for Monday before Magistrate Julie Todman Smith, however as of press time there is no indication on whether that hearing took place.
Thomas’s current criminal matter is the latest in a string of arrests dating back to at least 2020, with robbery, larceny, and vehicle tampering among the charges. Most of the cases ended in dismissal at the request of prosecutors, however Thomas is currently serving a one-year suspended sentence in connection with a matter last year in which he pleaded guilty to interfering with an officer.
