ST. CROIX — The VIPD is searching for a man who carjacked a Ford 150 pickup truck at gunpoint Saturday night at the Altona Lagoon, and led officers on a high-speed chase all the way to the Carambola Resort on the north side of the island.
According to V.I.P.D. Public Information Officer Toby Derima, the victim told police that while sitting in his Ford F-150 truck near the Lagoon area, an armed male approached his vehicle. At gunpoint, the victim was ordered out of his vehicle, to which he complied, and the suspect left the area in the stolen vehicle.
Mr. Derima said officers observed the stolen vehicle headed westbound and engaged in a pursuit to capture the suspect. The suspect led officers on a chase to the Renaissance Carambola Beach Resort, where he abandoned the vehicle and fled on foot, headed north into the bushes. Officers were unable to locate the suspect, according to the release.
The suspect, still at-large, is described a tall, slim male with a dark complexion, police said. He was wearing a red shirt, black pants, and face was covered with a scarf.
