ST. CROIX — Another man has been killed on St. Croix, an island that has seen an overwhelming number of homicides in the first four months of 2021.

The incident was confirmed to the Consortium by V.I.P.D. Public Information Officer Toby Derima, who said that on Thursday at around 4:42 p.m., the 911 Emergency Call Center received a call of a deceased male in the Campo Rico area. Officers traveled to the area and found an unresponsive male victim with gunshot wounds. It was confirmed the victim had no vital signs.

The victim has been identified as 23-year-old Cesario Carmona Cadiz, the Consortium has learned.

Thursday's homicide brought to nineteen the USVI's total for 2021: Sixteen on St. Croix, two in St. Thomas and one on St. John.

This incident is under active investigation, Mr. Derima said. Detectives are asking nearby residents of Campo Rico who may have heard or seen something to contact police to say what they know by calling 911, the Crime TipLine at (340) 778-4950, or Crime Stoppers USVI at (800) 222-TIPS.
