ST. CROIX — A man was found dead with multiple gunshot wounds on Campo Rico Road during the wee hours of Monday morning, V.I.P.D. Public Information Officer Toby Derima has confirmed to the Consortium.
Mr. Derima said the 911 Emergency Call Center received notification of the shooting and dead on arrival incident at about 1:53 a.m. Monday.
Officers on patrol came upon an unknown male victim lying lifeless in the road, according to Mr. Derima. After further examination, it was determined that the victim had multiple gunshot wounds and no signs of life.
The victim was identified by family members as 31-year-old Lionel Hendricks of Adventure Hill.
Today's homicide carried the territory's total for 2021 to twenty-six, with the last killings occurring in St. Thomas on June 18, when four individuals were shot and three died.
The investigation into the homicide continues and detectives are urging anyone with information on what happened to contact police by calling 911, the Crime TipLine at (340) 778-4950, or anonymously to Crime Stoppers USVI at (800) 222-TIPS.
