Whose backpack was it? That’s the question following Monday’s discovery of a bag at Central High School that reportedly contained marijuana and a fully loaded 9 mm handgun.
A press release from the Virgin Islands Police Department indicated that officers from the School Security Bureau at Central High were alerted by staff that they had found the backpack, searched it, and discovered the contraband inside.
Tuesday’s press release said that the matter was under investigation, however at the end of the week, the public is still no closer to learning who could have left the backpack at the school.
Security at schools in the territory has been under the spotlight, after incidents of brawls and other fights. Last month, several high school students were injured when assailants in a passing vehicle fired shots from a pellet gun at children on campus.
The VIPD, following their initial report of the incident and a subsequent public meeting with parents, have not provided any updates on that investigation either.
