The John H. Woodson Junior High School
ST. CROIX — The V.I. Police Department announced on Thursday that some students attending the John H. Woodson Junior High School were injured by assailants who fired shots from a pellet gun at the children on campus.
According to the V.I.P.D., the 911 Emergency Call Center received a call from the principal of the junior high school, Henry Mark, who revealed that the incident occurred just after 12:00 p.m. Thursday. He said a vehicle drove by the school and discharged the shots before quickly leaving the scene.
Mr. Mark reported injuries and said several students were treated by a school nurse. The wounds, according to the V.I.P.D., were not life-threatening.
The police department said the incident remains under active investigation.
The V.I. Dept. of Education in a release following publication of the story, said seven students sustained "minor bruising" from the projectiles. The department also said that parents were contacted and provided with information about the incident.
D.O.E. will host an emergency meeting on Friday at 7:40 a.m. for the school's faculty and staff, followed by a parent meeting at 9:00 a.m. the same day, and has invited all parents to participate. A PTA meeting scheduled for 5:30 today has been postponed.
